7 things about Vegetology ingredients you may not have known before

Here at Vegetology we are committed to creating nutritional supplements that are suitable for everyone regardless of your diet, lifestyle or religion.

Here at Vegetology we are committed to creating nutritional supplements that are suitable for everyone regardless of your diet, lifestyle or religion. Vegetology started when we noticed that there were some nutritional gaps for those following a plant-based diet, with supplements not always offering the most effective form of vitamins for vegans and vegetarians. For example, we have created Omega-3, an algal alternative to Omega-3 fish oil supplements, with Omega-3 DHA and EPA - the most efficient forms for the body to use.

All of our supplement ingredients have a few things in common. They are:

  • Sustainable - every ingredient we use is carefully considered to make the least impact on our planet. That may mean growing the ingredients in a controlled environment, as with our Omega-3 algae, or choosing a source where the local habitat and wildlife won’t be affected by harvesting plants.

  • Organic (where relevant) - our products are organic, when this is relevant. What we mean by that is that some of our ingredients, like the algal Omega-3 ingredient, are not grown in soil or the sea but in a controlled environment so cannot be classed as organic. They are however the purest form of the ingredient. Where we do use ingredients from soil, they are organic.
  • Plant-sourced - all of our ingredients are animal free, dairy free and suitable for vegans and vegetarians. We work with the Vegan Society and Vegetarian Society and are proud to carry their logos on all of our products.

  • GM free - we never use GM products and ask all that we work with to ensure the same.

1. Omega‑3 DHA and EPA that addresses ethical concerns about fish oil

We created Omega-3, a vegan Omega-3 supplement because a lot of plant-based Omega-3 supplements contained Omega-3 in the form of ALA, from chia or flax. This is a form that isn’t bioavailable and needs to be converted by your body before it can be used. As this conversion process is really ineffective, Omega-3 ALA supplements don’t give your body all the Omega-3 goodness that fish oil supplements do. However, it’s not just vegans and vegetarians who look for an alternative to fish oil supplements. About 30% of our customers have switched from fish oil to Omega-3, often because of concerns over unethical fishing practices and the overfishing of our oceans, which is leading to changes in the ecosystem.

2. Active Energy — Vitamin B complex & adaptogens for energy

We created Active Energy in response to lots of our customers asking for a vegan supplement that addressed common concerns with daily fatigue and a lack of energy. It’s got a great mix of energising vitamins - such as B12, which helps to speed up bodily reactions and metabolism, to help release energy from food. It also has two herbs, commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine - Rhodiola Rosea and Schisandra Chinensis. The herbs are called adaptogens - they work with your body depending on the time of day and what it needs. So if you take this supplement in the morning, it will help to boost your energy levels, if you take it in the evening, it will help to relax your body for sleep. Using these two herbs alongside the formula of vitamins and minerals in Active Energy helps to fight daily fatigue and tiredness.

3. Pregnancy Care — 22 ingredients for pregnancy and breastfeeding

Pregnancy Care is our specially formulated plant-based supplement for mum and baby. It has your recommended daily amount of folic acid, which is vital for baby’s development and recommended by the government for a healthy pregnancy. It also has a combination of B vitamins, for added energy during pregnancy, along with lots of other vitamins and minerals for healthy mum and healthy development of your baby. For mums during pregnancy and breastfeeding digestion can be an issue - which is why we have included ginger, a natural aid for digestion and heartburn.

4. Vit B12 — sustained release formula

What’s in our Vitamin B12 Sustained release formula - well Vitamin B12, in the form of Cyanocobalamin, and a plant-source agent to make the tablet… and that’s it! So it’s not the ingredients you may not have been aware of with this supplement but the great thing about our Vitamin B12 formula is that it is specially designed to slowly break down over six to eight hours. B12 is a water based vitamin and so your body will grab what it needs and expels the rest. Our formula gives your body a few chances to grab what it needs over a prolonged period for the maximum benefits for your body.

5. Bone Care — a bone and joint formula with Phytodroitin™

You may or may not know that most joint supplements contain a formula of Glucosamine and Chondroitin for healthy cartilage. The problem is that glucosamine is often derived from shellfish and Chondroitin is often derived from shark cartilage, making joint supplements not vegan or vegetarian friendly. Bone Care, our vegan bone and joint formula, uses Vegetarian Glucosamine Hydrochloride, which is sourced from fungus, and Phytodroitin™ , a plant-based alternative to Chondroitin, which is as effective as its animal origin counterpart. This formula is combined with Vitamins C, D3 and K2, calcium and magnesium for a highly effective, plant-sourced joint and bone supplement.

6. MultiVit — includes a superfood complex

MultiVit is a catch-all multi-vitamin packed full of 26 vitamins and minerals, making it suitable for everyone. It has been specially formulated to break down at varying rates for the body to absorb as much of the goodness as possible. It also contains a proprietary superfood complex that includes goji berry, pumpkin seed, blueberries and green tea extracts for an antioxidant boost.

7. Vit D3 — the world’s first Vegan Vitamin D3 source

Here at Vegetology we are passionate about providing effective nutritional supplements for everyone. We were concerned that vegan and vegetarian supplements contain Vitamin D2, which is the analogue version of Vitamin D, needing to be converted by the body before it can be used. Vitamin D3 supplements were often derived from lanolin in sheep’s wool, so not vegan or vegetarian friendly but D3 is the form of Vitamin D that is ready to be used by the body.

We created Vit D3, the world’s first Vegan Vitamin D3 ingredient, to address this nutritional gap. Vit D3 is made from lichen, a moss-like substance and is 100% plant-based, making it ideal for vegans and vegetarians.
