One Goal, Two Ways to Get There

Introducing our Calcium + Vit D3 + K2 tablets, and how to choose between our two calcium formulas

Tags: Calcium K2 D3

Last year we launched our Calcium + Vit D3 tablets. Two nutrients that have always belonged together: calcium to build and maintain bone, and vitamin D3 to make sure that calcium is actually absorbed rather than passing straight through. Simple, effective, and long overdue in a properly plant-based form.

Since then, we have been asked a fairly consistent question. What about K2?

It is a good question, and one that tells us our customers are paying attention. Because vitamin K2 is the third piece of this particular puzzle, and for a lot of people it is the one that is most likely to be missing. So we have now added it: our new Calcium + Vit D3 + K2 tablets bring all three bone health essentials together in a single chewable tablet.

Which raises an obvious follow-up question. If K2 makes the formula more complete, why keep the original? And if you are looking at both products and wondering which one makes sense for you, how do you decide?

Let us walk through it.

What both products share

Both tablets contain 400mg of calcium and vitamin D3 sourced from lichen, not lanolin. That matters, because the vast majority of vitamin D3 supplements on the market use lanolin, a substance derived from sheep's wool, which makes them unsuitable for vegans. Our D3 is plant-sourced, certified by the Vegan Society and the Vegetarian Society, and as effective as any animal-derived equivalent.

Both are chewable, gluten-free, and designed to be a practical everyday tablet rather than something you have to think too hard about. And both start from the same foundational principle: calcium does not work properly without D3, so the two should always come together.

A quick recap: why D3 belongs with calcium

Without sufficient vitamin D3, your body can only absorb around 10 to 15% of the calcium it encounters, whether from food or supplements. With adequate D3, that rises to 30 to 40%. The difference is substantial enough that a calcium supplement without D3 is, in practical terms, working well below its potential.

Vitamin D3 activates the transport proteins that pull calcium through the gut wall and into your bloodstream. It is the reason we built both formulas around the combination from the start, rather than offering standalone calcium.

What the new formula adds: the role of K2

Here is where the two products diverge, and why it is worth understanding what K2 actually does before deciding which you need.

Getting calcium into your bloodstream is step one. Step two, which most calcium supplements do not address at all, is directing that calcium to the right place. And this is where vitamin K2 comes in.

Your body contains proteins specifically designed to anchor calcium into bone tissue and to prevent it from depositing in soft tissues and arteries. These proteins, osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein, are only activated by vitamin K2. Without it, they remain dormant, and absorbed calcium is left without a clear destination.

The form of K2 we use is MK-7, which is the most bioavailable and longest-acting form available. A single daily tablet maintains circulating K2 levels throughout the day, giving those calcium-directing proteins the sustained activation they need to do their job.

In practical terms: Calcium + D3 gets calcium absorbed. Calcium + D3 + K2 gets calcium absorbed and directed into your bones rather than left to circulate aimlessly.

Who is Calcium + Vit D3 for?

The original formula is a solid, straightforward choice for anyone whose primary goal is making sure their calcium intake is properly supported by adequate D3.

It makes particular sense if you are already taking a separate K2 supplement, or if you are taking a higher-strength D3 supplement (like our Vit D3 4000iu + K2 tablets) that already includes K2.
In that case, adding K2 again through your calcium supplement is not necessary, and the original formula keeps things clean and uncomplicated.

It is also a good option for those who want to build a bone health routine progressively, starting with the calcium and D3 foundation and making decisions about K2 separately.

Who is Calcium + Vit D3 + K2 for?

The new formula is for anyone who wants the most complete bone health support in a single daily tablet.

It is particularly relevant for vegans and plant-based eaters who are not getting K2 from their diet. K2 is found primarily in fermented foods like natto (a traditional Japanese fermented soybean dish) and to a lesser extent in certain cheeses and fermented vegetables. Most people eating a plant-based diet are consuming very little of it, and many are consuming none at all. A supplement that includes K2 closes that gap without requiring an additional product.

It is also worth considering if you are in or approaching midlife, when bone density naturally begins to decline and supporting the full calcium management system becomes increasingly worthwhile. Post-menopausal women in particular, who face accelerated bone loss as oestrogen levels decrease, benefit from the combination of all three nutrients working together.

And for anyone who simply wants to consolidate their bone health support into one tablet rather than managing multiple supplements, this is the formula that does it all.

A straightforward way to think about it

If your supplement stack already covers K2 elsewhere: the original Calcium + Vit D3 is the right call.

If it does not, and you want everything in one place: the new Calcium + Vit D3 + K2 is the more complete option.

Either way, you are starting from a better foundation than most calcium supplements on the market, which still rely on animal-derived D3, skip the K2 conversation entirely, and come in a form that half the population cannot take.

We built both products from the same place: the belief that bone health support should be properly formulated, genuinely plant-based, and accessible to everyone. Whether you go two nutrients or three, that part does not change.

Strong bones, properly supported. It's in our nature. 🌿
